Coaching Sessions
What does a personalized plan entail?
A personalized behaviour modification plan can include a variety of tailored strategies, such as environmental modifications, skill-building, establishing routines, and exploring replacement behaviours. The specific approaches used will vary based on the unique needs of each client.
What is your cancellation policy for coaching sessions?
We understand that life can be unpredictable, and there may be times when you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. However, our cancellation policy requires at least 48 hours' notice to avoid any fees. Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you, and if we don't receive adequate notice, we may be unable to fill that slot for another client in need.
If you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled service, you will be charged a 50% cancellation fee. And if you cancel in less than 24 hours or simply do not attend your appointment, you will be responsible for the full session fee.
We hope you understand the importance of this policy, as it allows us to manage our schedule and serve all our clients effectively.

What happens if I'm late for a scheduled session?
If you arrive late for your session, the time you miss will be deducted from the scheduled session time. For example, if you are 10 minutes late to a 30-minute session, you will only receive 20 minutes of the session.
Additionally, if you are late and the session time is significantly reduced, we may recommend rescheduling the appointment. In this case, you will still be responsible for the session cost, as cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice are subject to the full session fee.

How do you conduct virtual sessions?
Virtual coaching sessions are conducted using video conferencing platforms Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Clients are responsible for ensuring their computer and internet connection are functioning properly before the coaching session begins. We cannot extend session times to accommodate technical issues.
What happens if there's equipment or internet failure during a session?
In the event of an unplanned equipment or service malfunction that disrupts video services, sessions will be conducted over the telephone.
Am I allowed to record my sessions?
To ensure the security and privacy of all participants, the making of audio or video recordings during the session is strictly prohibited.
How many sessions does my teenager need?
The number of sessions required for effective behaviour modification is highly individualized, as each teen's struggles are unique. While some may notice positive changes after the very first session, consistent commitment to the process is key for achieving the most sustainable results.
General Inquiries
What is your methodology?
When working with teenagers, I find that a direct, honest approach is most effective. Plainly stating the facts can motivate meaningful change, as people are unlikely to modify their behaviour unless they recognize the need and benefits

Parental Consent & Involvement
Is parental consent required?
All participants under the age of 18 must submit a signed parental consent form before their first session.
Are there any penalities for revoking parental consent?
You and your child may end the coaching relationship at any time, without penalty or prejudice, except for any late cancellations or no-shows. Additionally, you have the right to refuse or discuss modifications to any coaching techniques or suggestions that you believe may be harmful to your child's progress.
Do parents have to attend individual sessions with their teens?
While parents are welcome to attend introductory and follow-up sessions, it is not a requirement for them to attend every session with their teen. The decision for parental attendance should be made through discussion and agreement between the parent and teen.
What is the parent's role in their teen's progress?
Parental involvement in a teen's behavioural modification process can be beneficial when done thoughtfully, but can also hinder progress if not approached carefully. Engaged parents who attend sessions, learn supportive techniques, and apply feedback can enhance the process. However, excessive involvement coupled with unrealistic expectations or undermining the coaching work can actually impede progress.
Teens are more likely to open up and change at their own comfortable pace, rather than under external pressure. Effective behavioural modification is a gradual process that requires respecting the teen's need for privacy and their individualized timeline for success.
Privacy & Confidentialty
Will sessions remain confidential?
Session material will remain confidential for both parents and teens. However, Canadian privacy laws allow professionals to override confidentiality if they have concerns about a teen's safety. Typically, I will first discuss these concerns with the teen and work together to involve the teen's family and ensure their wellbeing. I also have a legal duty to report if a client is being harmed by another healthcare provider or if a teen is experiencing abuse. Additionally, client files are kept confidential unless subpoenaed by a court.
Racine Behavioural Consulting is not liable for breaches of confidentiality that directly result from the client's own actions.
Will you disclose the child's treatment information to their parent/guardian?
We share general details about your child's progress, but we will not disclose specific information they have shared with us without their consent. This includes any activities or behaviours that you may disapprove of or find upsetting, as long as they do not pose a serious, immediate threat to your child's safety. If your child's risky behaviour escalates to the point of serious, imminent danger, we will assess the situation and, if necessary, inform you.
What is your policy regarding keeping client records?
Your personal data is protected through specific safeguards like locked cabinets and computer passwords. You may request a copy of your records for a reasonable fee. However, we cannot release records that contain the name of another person or reports from other professionals without their consent.
